 THE BULMERS MOOR 36 2009

Newcastle United Golf Club play host to the Moor 36 Scratch Open, which sees some of the best golfers in the  North of England compete for the Peter Cowling Trophy.  The event is also given a prestigious sponsor in the form  of Bulmers Cider and is incorporated in the ZFL order of  merit.The 2009 event was won by Simon Lee with an 8  under par total of 136. This included a magnificent second  round score of 64 (8 under par) which is a new course  record.

England Duty 2009

Long serving member Kevin Cademy-Taylor the current Northumberland County Captain had the privilege of captaining an England team in a world championship event.

The spirit international championship held in Houston Texas is a biennial event played by the top 20 countries in the world, representing England were Matt Haines, Stiggy Hodgson both Walker Cup playersalong with Rachel Jennings & Holly Clyburn both Curtis Cup squad members.

Kevin said it was an amazing experience to represent your country and the team played some fantastic golf, unfortunately we just missed out on the medals.

The USA ran out eventual winners scoring a team total of 45 under.

Newcastle United members were recognised at the National Volunteer for the Year awards at EGU headquaters Woodhall Spa.
Kevin Cademy-Taylor won the volunteer Coach of the Year award mainly linked with Golf Development in the Northumberland Union of Golf Clubs. He has generated a network for County coaches and has raised in excess of £2500 every year of his term in office. He continues to explore new initiatives to help grow the game and develop young golfers.
Andrew McDonald wonthe under 18 Golf volunteer of the Year award. His main work has been with schools and running golf taster sessions with local primary schools. Working with the golf foundation Andrew has been selected for his leadership qualities and enthusiasm while attending workshops. This award is widely recognised as one of the most difficult to win and demonstrates that young golfers are supporting golf development and participation.

 

 THE BULMERS MOOR 36 2010

 

The Club staged this event on Saturday August 14th, and again saw some of the cream of the amatuer scene, visit  the club to compete in the ZFL order of merit scratch competition.

 After tight first round scores, John Longcake (Silloth) held the 18 hole lead at the halfway stage with a 5 under 67. However, the second round saw Phil Ridden (City of N/Cle) continue his blistering run of form of 2010, finishing 7 under, with rounds of 68-69, to lift the trophy.

BULMERS MOOR 36 2011

For the third year running, the club hosted the 36 hole Moor Scratch Open sponsored by Bulmers & Citroen. The event was won by Morpeth golfer Mark Penny with a score of 135 (9 under). His first round 66 included a remarkable back 9 of 29 (7 under) with birdies at the 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th. This feat of 8 birdies in a row may well be an amateur record.
